Gardner Bender, founded in 1959 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, manufactures professional electrician's tools and supplies. The firm originally was known for its proprietary conduit benders with integrated levels, introduced in 1959. The company launched a line of metal stamping products in 1961. It also has developed fish tape, wire connector, and data communications products. The firm is known for its Circuit Alert (TM) voltage sensing wire strippers, Rewind (TM) fish tape winder, Upperhand (TM) fish tape, Cable Snake (TM) fish tape, Big Ben (TM) aluminum bender, and ColorCode (TM) plastic staple products. It also offers customers the Ox-Gard (TM) anti-oxidant compound, Hex-Lok (TM) multi-range connectors, PushGard (TM) push-in connectors, Uni-Lok (TM) universal connectors, WingGard (TM) winged connectors, and GB Xtreme (TM) terminals. The firm launched its Circuit Alert line in 1997. The tools, which cut and strip solid and stranded wire, provide users with audible and visual voltage alerts. Circuit Alert strippers include double bevel stainless steel cutting blades and ergonomic, cushioned handles. The Slug-Out (TM) products allow electricians to cut holes. The company also offers clients Volt Check (TM), Circuit Tracker (TM), and other testers. Gardner Bender acquired Actuant Corporation and Jetline (R) Company in 1988, Palmer Industries in 1993, and Vision Plastics in 1994. The company maintains additional distribution and manufacturing facilities across North America. Gardner Bender was founded by Jim Gardner.
