iFire (TM) Technology Corporation, founded in 1991 and based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, develops high-performance flat panel displays that are built on the firm's proprietary thick dialectric electroluminescent (TDEL) technology. TDEL, which is based on inorganic electroluminescent (IEL) technology, combines thick- and thin-film processes. TDEL generates light by applying an alternating electrical field to an inorganic light-emitting phosphor. The Color By Blue (TM) color conversion materials absorb blue light from phosphor and re-emit green or red light. The simple structure of the displays reduce manufacturing costs by approximately 30 percent. iFire Technology will begin producing 30- to 45-inch displays in 2007. The company also is known for its Efficient Resonant Integrated Supply (ERIS) power management system. The firm has formed a technology alliance with Sanyo Electric Company Limited. It has a joint development agreement with Dai Nippon Printing Company Limited. Company investors include Technology Partnership Canada. iFire Technology is a subsidiary of The Westaim Corporation, which is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the WED symbol and on NASDAQ under the WEDX symbol.
