Bergey WindPower Company (BWC), founded in 1977 and based in Norman, Oklahoma, develops small wind turbines that provide residential and business users worldwide with on-grid and off-grid electric power. The systems support the powering of remote homes and facilities, water pumps, and telecommunications sites. The turbines employ patented airfoil, rotor speed control, blade pitching, fiberglass rotor blade, and low-speed magnet alternator technologies. BWC introduced its BWC 1000 1kW systems in 1980. In 1983, the company launched its BWC EXCEL 10kW product line. The BWC allows residential and farm users to reduce utility bills. The firm's BWC 1500 1.5kW systems, which replaced the BWC 1000 line, were introduced in 1990. The XL.1 1kW advanced turbine was introduced in 1998. BWC also sells tower wiring kits, DC power centers, battery strings, inverters, submersible water pumps, and reference books. The firm's turbines have been installed across 90 countries. The company works with 600 dealers worldwide. It provides dealers with installation, system design, and other training services. BWC is a member of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE). The firm has won received design awards from the Society of the Plastics Industry.
