HighBeam (TM) Research Incorporated was founded in 2002 as Alacritude LLC. The firm was launched with its acquisition of Tucows Incorporated's eLibrary subscription-based research service and Encyclopedia.com online information resource. Alacritude acquired the Researchville.com metasearch domain in 2002. A year later, the firm developed a technology platform that integrated the eLibrary, Encyclopedia.com, and Researchville.com services. HighBeam Research subscribers can save and organize articles. Content can be exported to Microsoft (R) Word (R) and Microsoft PowerPoint (R). Articles also can be e-mailed. HighBeam Research earns revenue from subscriptions and advertising. The firm was founded by Patrick Spain. The company has won recognition from 'EContent,' The Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA), and 'Fast Company.'
