Renewable Energy Corporation AS, or REC Group, based in Oslo, Norway, develops solar-grade polysilicon and solar wafers, cells, and modules. The company's proprietary technology supports the production of mono- and multicrystalline wafers. The firm is known for its REC ScanCell solar cells and REC ScanModule solar cell modules. The company also produces monosilane gas. REC Group was founded as Fornybar Energi AS in 1996. The firm, along with ScanWafer AS and SolEnergy AS, established the REC Group holding company in 2000. In 2004, ScanWafer became a REC subsidiary. A year later, REC Group acquired SiTech AS. REC SiTech AS, founded in 1994 and based in Glomfjord, Norway, produces monocrystalline ingots for clients across the solar energy sector. REC Group encompasses the REC Silicon Incorporated, REC Solar Grade Silicon LLC, REC Scancell AS, REC Scanmodule AB, and Solar Vision Proprietary Limited units. It also has invested in CSG Solar AG, based in Thalheim, Germany. In 2005, REC Group invested in EverQ GmbH, a joint venture of Evergreen Solar Incorporated and Q-Cells AG. Also in 2005, the firm acquired Komatsu Limited's Advanced Silicon Materials (ASiMI) company, renamed REC Advanced Silicon Materials LLC. REC ASiMI, based in Butte, Montana, has earned ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certifications. REC Group maintains manufacturing facilities and offices across Europe and the United States. It markets technology to photovoltaic (PV) and electronics companies in Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa. REC Group went public in 2006. It is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the REC symbol.
