BenQ Corporation, founded in 1984 as Continental Systems Incorporated, develops monitors, mobile telephones, digital projectors, and other computing, telecommunications, and electronic equipment. The firm is organized into the Computing Products, BenQ Mobile, and Digital Media business groups. The Computing Products unit produces LCD monitors, wide-screen laptops, optical storage devices, and imaging systems. The company is the third largest scanner manufacturer in the world. The firm's BenQ Mobile business group produces GSM, GPRS, and CDMA mobile, smart, and PDA telephones. The company's Digital Media unit produces data and video digital projectors, LCD televisions, audiovisual equipment, and digital cameras. BenQ is known for its Joybook laptop and Joybee digital audio player product lines, as well as the Senseye (TM) digital image enhancement technology. The firm maintains four regional and 70 sales offices worldwide. Europe and the Americas account for approximately 60 percent of product sales. BenQ Group encompasses AU Optronics Corporation, Darfon Electronics Corporation, Daxon Technology Incorporated, Airoha Technology Corporation, BenQ Guru Software Company Limited, Philips BenQ Digital Storage, Radium, and Cando Corporation. The companies share resources but operate independently. BenQ Corporation also acquired Siemens Mobile Devices in 2005. BenQ has won recognition from 'Business Week,' 'Far Eastern Economic Review,' 'Business Weekly Taiwan,' and 'The Economist.'
