Via Technologies Incorporated, founded in 1987 and based in Taipei, Taiwan, develops core logic chipsets, x86 processors, and other products. The firm markets its products to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), motherboard vendors, and systems integrators across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Its systems support high-resolution display, high bitrate audio, and other x86 processing. The company is known for its VIA EPIA product line, which includes the Mini-ITX and Nano-ITX motherboards. Via Technologies also introduced the market's first six-channel audio codec, VIA Vinyl Six-TRAC, in 2001. The company introduced a high-definition, eight-channel audio controller, VIA Envy24HT, in 2002. The firm also offers customers its VIA Eden-N low-profile native x86 processor. Via Technologies acquired the Cyrix and Centaur microprocessor divisions in 1999. A year later, the firm established S3 Graphics Company Limited. In 2002, it launched its VIA Platform Solutions Division, which brings mainboards to market. In the same year, the company acquired LSI Logic's CDMS design division, which was renamed VIA Telecom Incorporated. Via Technologies' Project Canaan focuses on optical storage, networking, IEEE 1394 and other computer platform development work. Via Technologies is traded on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) under the 2388 listing. The company originally was based in Fremont, California. It moved to Taipei to form additional partnerships with IT manufacturers in Taiwan and China.
