Lenovo Group Limited, founded in 1984, provides customers worldwide with computer products and technical support services. The firm originally was known as Legend Group. Based in Beijing, it provided Chinese consumers with home computer systems. The company went public in 1994, with shares traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the LNVGY. In 2003, Legend changed its name to Lenovo. In 2005, it acquired IBM's Personal Computing Division. The company is known for its ThinkPad notebook, ThinkVantage software, and ThinkVision monitor product lines. Lenovo Group has formed a strategic alliance with IBM, allowing enterprise customers to access IBM's technical support and financing services. The alliance supports Lenovo in distributing products worldwide. Lenovo Group holds 2,000 patents. The firm is based in Purchase, New York. It maintains additional facilities in Raleigh, North Carolina and Beijing, China. It employs 19,000 people worldwide. Lenovo Group has raised $350 million in funding from Texas Pacific Group, General Atlantic LLC, and Newbridge Capital LLC.
