Universal Instruments Corporation, founded in 1919, originally manufactured safety pins and, later, offered customers machining, tool, and die services. In the 1960s, the firm began focusing on the development of electronic circuit assembly equipment. It is known for the Axial, Radial, and DIP insertion equipment product lines. In 1993, Universal Instruments acquired the Dynapert through hold assembly machine business, providing the firm with access to Southeast Asian markets. Also in the 1990s, the company developed its modular surface mount machine systems. Universal Instruments provides customers with machine control software. The company develops odd form assembly, semiconductor, material dispensing, screen printing, and other systems. It also offers clients technical support services. Universal Instruments employs over 1,100 people across 15 countries. It maintains production facilities in Binghamton, New York and Shekou, China. The company holds over 180 patents.
