PAREXEL International is a Massachusetts-based provider of services to the pharmaceuticals industry. PAREXEL has helped hundreds of clients develop new drugs and devices. The firm's staff offers assistance in clinical trials, biostatistics, medical marketing, training, regulatory affairs, and other areas. Its more than 5,100 employees are divided among four groups: Perceptive Informatics Incorporated, Medical Marketing Services, PAREXEL Consulting Group, and Clinical Research Services. PAREXEL was launched in 1983 by Anne Sayigh and Josef von Rickenbach. Its first focus was on government regulations. The growing firm opened its second office in 1984. In 1988 to 1991, PAREXEL acquired four consultancies. In 1995, the company went public (NASDAQ: PRXL). In 1996, it began expanding its operations into the Middle East. By 1998, the company had grown to over 4,500 employees. In 2000, it spun off Perceptive Informatics and opened a laboratory in South Africa.
