Virgin Mobile, founded in 1999 and based in Trowbridge, England, is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that provides over 4 million customers with voice and data communications services over the T-Mobile network. The company offers consumers SMS, MMS, entertainment content access, and international roaming services. Through the Virgin Mobile Bites portal, users can access games, information, and music. Products and services are offered through 5,000 outlets in the United Kingdom. Retailers include Virgin Mobile Stores, Virgin Megastores, The Carphone Warehouse, Dixons, Argos, TOMO, and Woolworths. Virgin Mobile offers customers monthly and pay-per-use communications plans. The firm maintains three facilities across the United Kingdom. Virgin Mobile was established originally as a joint venture between parent company Virgin Group and T-Mobile. Virgin Group purc hased all of T-Mobile's shares in 2004. Some of those shares were later listed on the London Stock Exchange. They also were included in the FTSE 250 index. ntl Incorporated, the holding company of Telewest, acquired Virgin Mobile in 2006. Virgin Mobile has earned recognition from J.D. Power and Associates, 'The Financial Times,' and 'The Sunday Times.'
