Gateway (R) Incorporated, founded as Gateway 2000 in 1985 and based in Irvine, California, is an Acer Incorporated company that develops personal computers and peripherals. The firm provides consumers with desktop and laptop systems, displays, and other products. Computers employ the Microsoft (R) Windows (R) operating system. Gateway also sells refurbished computers. The firm's store sells digital cameras, notebook accessories, printers, mobile computing, gaming, software, and other third-party products. The company has a branded consumer electronics line that includes plasma television and digital display products. In alliance with Stardock, the company offers customers the MyColors desktop theme design tools. Gateway products are sold by retailers and partners across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Gateway acquired e-Machines in 2004. In 2007, Gateway was acquired by Acer Incorporated, which is based in Taiwan. Also in 2007, Gateway sold its business, government, and education product lines to MPC Corporation. MPC originally was known as Micron Computers. Gateway is listed on NASDAQ under the GTW symbol. The firm was founded by Theodore Waitt.
