Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), based in La Jolla, California, promotes the development of a scalable global Internet infrastructure. The association includes corporate, government, and research organizations as members. Working with IETF/IPPM, CAIDA supports the definition of Internet traffic metrics. It supports the collaborative analysis of traffic data. It also promotes the development of traffic performance, flow characterization, simulation, and visualization methodologies. CAIDA collaborates with the National Science Foundation (NSF) National Laboratory for Applied Network Research (NLANR), with NLANR's Measurement and Operations Analysis Team (MOAT), and with the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA). The organizations capture and monitor traffic, analyze Web caching technologies, and develop network administration tools. CAIDA has developed the cflowd flow export data analysis, CoralReef traffic monitoring, and skitter ICMP TTL data acquisition tools. The organization's Round Robin Database (RRDtool) system stores and displays time-series data. CAIDA also develops the NetGeo, Mapnet, Plankton, MantaRay, and Otter topology visualization tools. The association maintains network visualization resource information. It also conducts technology workshops.
