Carbon Nanotechnologies Incorporated (CNI), founded in 2000, is a leading developer of single-wall carbon nanotubes. The firm has developed continuous processes for developing Buckytubes, employing technology licensed from Rice University. CNI can fill orders in quantities of one to 100 grams and has shipped products to over 250 locations. It expects to develop commercial products by 2005. The company's processing units and other offices are based in Kellogg, Brown, and Root's Houston facilities. Kellogg, Brown, and Root also supplies CNI with engineering services. CNI works with 300 companies and university laboratories worldwide in developing carbon nanotechnology products. In 2001, the company received funding from Gordon Cain and William McMinn. The firm was founded by 1996 Nobel Laureate Dr. Richard E. Smalley; former Lyondell Petrochemical CEO Bob Gower; Dr. Ken Smith, formerly Rice University's Executive Director of the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology; and Dr. Dan Colbert, also a former director of the Center.
