Gene-IT Incorporated is the developer of the Biofacet (TM) computational biology software engine and the Biofacet SML (TM) sequence mining query language. The technologies allow researchers to compare and analyze genomic data quickly. In 2002, the Biofacet engine compared 70 genomes on CEA's HP/Compaq supercomputer, making approximately 30 billion comparisons. The engine also has been used to limit TrEMBL sequence redundancy in the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) SWISS-PROT protein database. In 2000, the firm helped Thomson Derwent establish the value of its GENESEQ (TM) database, comparing sequences with those found in SWISS-PROT. In the same year, Genoscope employed Biofacet in predicting that the human genome contains between 28,000 and 34,000 genes. The company's technology also has allowed French pharmaceutical firm Servier to file multiple G-protein coupled receptor patents. Gene-IT clients include Aventis, DuPont, and Pfizer.
