Schneider Optics Incorporated, founded in 1913 and based in Hauppauge, New York, develops laser and optics products. In 1915, the firm developed the first cinema projection lenses, and, in 1919, it produced the first three-element asymmetrical anastigmatic lens. Two years later, the company was renamed Jos. Schneider & Company, Optische Werke. Founder Joseph Schneider died in 1933, and, in 1937, construction began on a new manufacturing facility in Bad Kreuznach. The firm developed interchangeable lens and automatic focus tracking products in the early 1950's. In 1961, Feinwerktechnik GmbH was founded. The unit focused on the development and production of electrohydraulic servo valves. In 1972, Schneider Corporation of America (SCA), now Schneider Optics, was founded. In the early 1980's, Schneider Optics introduced the CINELUX cinema and AV project lenses. It also acquired B+W Filterfabrik, Joh. Weber KG's business operations. In 1997, the company founded the PENTACON GmbH Foto-und Feinwerktechnik subsidiary. It acquired Century Precision Optics in 2000.
