The Liberty Alliance Project, formed in 2001, is a consortium of over 160 technology companies. The organization develops open specifications that support secure federated identity technologies and identity-based Web services. The Liberty Alliance Project encompasses business and marketing, technology, public policy, conformance, and services expert groups. American Express, Ericsson, France Telecom, General Motors, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Sony Corporation, and seven other companies serve on its management board. The consortium's specifications and guidelines focus on privacy and security issues. The Liberty Alliance Project's Public Policy Expert Group works with governments, regulatory agencies, and consumer advocacy organizations in developing identity strategies that support data privacy guidelines. The consortium's Phase 2 federated network architecture includes affiliation, permission-based attribute sharing, anonymity, interaction service, client support, service interface, and other specifications.
