Open GIS Consortium Incorporated (OGC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994. Its mission is to promote standards for georeference data. Among the consortium's members are government agencies, software providers, computer manufacturers, mapping firms, and disaster management organizations. Committees work on projects such as the GRASS standards, GRASS publications such as 'GRASSCLIPPINGS,' and user groups such as GRASS TURF. They work with open software groups such as CERL and with commercial sponsors and academic institutions such as U.C. Berkeley. OGC evolved from earlier groups such as OGF. Commercial members of OGC include Microsoft, Lockheed Martin, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle. Overall, there are 221 members of the consortium. Open GIS Consortium's recent projects include Sensor Web, the General Services Model for GIS Web services, the Geospatial Fusion Services Pilot, and the Web Mapping Testbed.
