National Technical Information Service (NTIS) is the official resource for government-sponsored U.S. and worldwide scientific, technical, engineering, and business-related information. It is a nonappropriated agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Technology Administration. Its costs are paid for by the sales of its products and services. It offers a collection of nearly three million titles, including business and management studies, international marketing reports, and training tools. Information is available in various formats such as printed, CD-ROM, computer tape and diskette, online, microfiche, and audio and video cassette. NTIS acquires information from more than 200 agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, Department of Veteran Affairs, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Agriculture. It also acquires data from many international governments and other international organizations, and from contracts or cooperative agreements with the private sector, individuals, and other organizations.
