The University of Washington's Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HITLab) develops software and hardware interface technologies that optimize cognition, collaboration, health care, and other processing. The laboratory draws researchers from the University of Washington's engineering, medicine, education, social sciences, architecture, and design arts departments. The research unit has developed virtual reality systems that support the treatment of phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder, and pain. HITLab has designed virtual collaboration interfaces and learning environments. It also develops low-vision aid, retinal display, 3D microscopy, surgical assistance, surgical simulation, and other systems.
