VeriFone (R) Incorporated, founded in 1981, develops point-of-sale (POS) electronic payment transaction processing systems. The firm provides companies worldwide with hardware devices, security and encryption software, check conversion and imaging systems, and other products. It also offers clients third-party products. VeriFone POS products handle PIN debit card, credit card, radio frequency identification (RFID), electronic benefits transfer (EBT), electronic bill payment, and other transactions. The company serves retail, financial, health care, petroleum processing, government, and other organizations worldwide. VeriFone introduced a wide range of transaction terminal products in the 1980s, shipping over one million of them in that decade. The firm launched a partner program in 1988. In 1990, the firm went public, with stock listed on NASDAQ. In 1995, the company moved to the New York Stock Exchange, with shares traded under the VFI symbol. Two years later, VeriFone was acquired by Hewlett-Packard Company. The company then was acquired by Gores Technology Group in 2001. In 2002, the firm was recapitalized by GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC. VeriFone and its products have won recognition from 'Forbes Magazine' and 'The Wall Street Journal.'
