Unisys is a global company that produces computer systems and software. Unisys has been in business for more than 115 years and has tens of thousands of customers. Unisys serves six main markets: media, financial services, communications, government, commercial, and transportation. The firm provides outsourcing, integration, and consulting services in addition to offering network servers and other infrastructure products. Unisys began in 1886 as American Arithmometer Company, a maker of Burroughs adding machines. In 1911, the company, then known as Burroughs, released the first adding-substracting device. In 1923, it released the first direct multiplication billing machine. By 1929, the vendor had shipped one million adding machines. In 1949, Remington Rand introduced the first computer. In 1955, Sperry and Remington merged, forming Sperry Rand. Throughout the next decades, Burroughs and Sperry designed many computers and subsytems. In 1986, Sperry and Burroughs merged to form Unisys. Unisys's firsts include the first CMOS-based mainframe and the first 32-bit Windows server.
