Kiva Systems Incorporated is headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts. This private company was founded by Mick Mountz in 2003. After experiencing problems in the materials handling systems of the supply chain at Webvan, Mick Mountz decided that his company, Kiva Systems would provide efficient solutions in picking, packing, and shipping products. Having developed mobile solutions for the distribution and order fulfillment industry, Kiva’s products include ItemFetch (TM), OrderFetch (TM), and CaseFetch (TM). Kiva’s mobile fulfillment system (MFS) is completely automated. It is used for warehouse picking and shipping. Kiva’s solutions combine storage, movement, and sorting of products into one simple system. Delivery of any required item to any operator at any time is done by MFS’s autonomous mobile robots and sophisticated control software. Kiva’s products are used in many applications like in split-case picking, shipping sortation, case picking, split-case replenishment, and mixed-pallet building. These applications are used in various verticals which include office supplies, apparel, drugstore, books, sporting goods, music, medical, video, auto parts, grocery, industrial supplies, household, and toys. Bain Capital Ventures provides funding for Kiva Systems. Diapers.com, Zappos.com, and Walgreens co. are the major customers of Kiva MFS.
