Electric Power Research Institute Incorporated, founded in 1973 and based in Palo Alto, California, is a nonprofit that supports collaborative, multi-disciplinary research into electricity generation, delivery, and usage technologies. The institute encompasses power delivery and usage, nuclear, energy generation, environment, energy efficiency, and renewable energy programs. The organization serves commercial, academic, and other energy technology scientists, engineers, and researchers across 40 countries. It provides members with technology, policy, and economic analyses. EPRI supports emerging energy technology research. The organization develops environment, generation, nuclear, and power delivery sector strategic plans. It has produced reports on carbon capture and storage, energy infrastructure security, nuclear materials degradation, ecological asset management, water availability and quality, intelligent grid, global climate change and other subjects. The organization also publishes the 'EPRI Journal.' It hosts workshops and conferences. It operates websites focused on aerosol research, electric transportation, energy efficiency, ocean energy, solar technology, and other research. It has worked with General Motors and 34 utilities providers in promoting the integration of plug-in hybrid vehicles into the power grid.
