Victor Company of Japan Limited, or JVC (R), founded in 1927 and based in Yokohama, Japan, develops audio, video, computer, software, consumer and professional electronics, and media products. The company is known for its DLA-HD1 high-definition (HD) home theater projector, Everio GZ-HD7 HD hard disk camcorder, and SHARE STATION DVD burner products. The firm developed the world's first VHS home video recorder in 1976. Working with Victor Entertainment Incorporated, the company developed the net K2 audio compression technology in 2005. Since its founding, JVC has produced television sets, EP and LP records, video and digital video cameras, DVD players, and plasma displays. The company provides industrial clients with inspection and audiovisual equipment. The firm also produces furniture. JVC has 32 subsidiaries across Asia, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Limited holds a majority stake in the company.
