DataDyne.org, founded in 2003, develops public health data management systems. The firm's software supports handheld computer, smartphone, Global Positioning System (GPS), and other mobile devices. The company is known for its open source EpiSurveyor software suite, which allows mobile device users to collect public health data. Information then can be transferred to computers for analysis. EpiSurveyor runs on Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Mobile, Symbian, and other Java-enabled devices. The system was developed in collaboration with the Kenyan Ministry of Health. The program can be downloaded from the DataDyne.org website. The company also provides clients with field data collection, analysis, database development, database migration, application development, survey design, training, and other services. DataDyne.org has been awarded grants from the U.N. foundation, the Knight Foundation, and the World Bank. The company was founded by physician and epidemiologist Dr. Joel Salanikio and technologist Rose Donna. Dr. Salanikio won a World Bank Development Marketplace Award in 2003. He won the Haverford Award for Humanitarian Service in 2005.
