Kent SeaTech Corporation, founded in 1972 and based in San Diego, California, develops commercial aquaculture production technologies. The firm launched its 160-acre striped bass production facility, based outside of Palm Springs, California, in 1984. The facility employs geothermal groundwater resources that support year-round breeding. Kent SeaTech is the largest producer of hybrid striped bass in the world. Fish are marketed under the California Farmed Striped Bass (R) brand. Kent SeaTech Corporation was founded as Aquatic Systems Incorporated (ASI). The firm was launched by Jim Carlberg and Jack Van Olst, formerly aquaculture researchers at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Kentco Capital Corporation acquired a majority stake in ASI in 1992. ASI was renamed Kent SeaTech Corporation at that time. Kent SeaTech has been awarded a research grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Advanced Technology Program. NIST is U.S. Department of Commerce agency.
