Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), founded in 1989 and based in Milpitas, California, is a nonprofit corporation that defines industry interface standards for personal computers, workstations, and consumer electronics products. The association is led by a board of directors. The organization serves a voting membership of 165 software and hardware development companies worldwide. VESA originally was known for developing the VESA Local Bus (VL-Bus) standard, approved in 1992. The organization has defined the VESA DisplayPort, VESA DisplayID, VESA Net2Display, VESA Mobile Digital Display Interface (MDDI), and VESA Digital Packet Video Link (DPVL) standards. It also has developed the VESA Flat Display Mounting Interface (FDMI) VESA Display Data Channel (DDC) and Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) standards. VESA includes display, television compatibility, monitor panel, notebook panel, and other working and task groups. The VESA Japan Committee, established in 2000, promotes the development of design tools and reference guides. It hosts educational seminars for member companies based in Japan.
