It was the first firm in the world to operate a transatlantic mobile network built on Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technologies. The company also has deployed general packet radio service (GPRS), wireless LAN (WLAN), and other mobile communications systems. T-Mobile International provides customers with Web and e-mail access, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), television broadcast streaming, secure data transfer, and other services. The company, working with the T-Com affiliate, operates 20,000 Internet access points worldwide. The firm is known for the WorldClass transatlantic roaming service, introduced in 2001. T-Mobile International acquired VoiceStream Wireless and Powertel in 2001. The company also has acquired max.mobil and Ben. It has formed alliances with Cisco Systems, Intel, and Warner Bros. Online. The firm is a member of the FreeMove mobile telecommunications alliance, which also includes Orange, Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM), and TeliaSonera. T-Mobile International has won recognition from J.D. Power and Associates.
