Open Content Alliance (OCA), founded in 2005 and based in San Francisco, California, is a nonprofit that promotes the permanent archiving of multilingual digitized text and multimedia content. The organization was launched by Yahoo! and the Internet Archive. It collaborates with technology businesses, nonprofit groups, and government agencies worldwide. Yahoo! will index archived OCA content. Text and multimedia content will be accessed through the OCA website. The organization works with developers in producing archive search tools, catalogs, and indexes. OCA's initial contributors include the Internet Archive, the European Archive, the United Kingdom's National Archives, the University of Toronto, the University of California Libraries, the Prelinger Archives, and O'Reilly Media. Other contributors include the Boston Library Consortium, the Bancroft Library, the Getty Research Institute, the Biodiversity Heritage Library, Adobe (R) Systems, HP Labs, and Washington University. Most content, offered in PDF format, will be printable. Contributors will define access levels. The OCA includes metadata, digital preservation, scanning, book format, data transfer, and other working groups.
