Kaneva Incorporated, based in Atlanta, Georgia, is a privately held company that operates the World of Kaneva 3D virtual environment and social network. The virtual city encompasses game, shopping, home design, and other features. Members create avatars that communicate and interact online. Users also customize their own 3D webpages. Kaneva's platform includes forum and real-time chat features. The Blast interface allows virtual world participants to share photographs, songs, videos, and games. The Media Browser tool allows users to select playlists for their virtual television sets. An online store allows community members to purchase widgets, along with clothing, home furnishings, and other virtual items. The World of Kaneva hosts parties, dances, and other online events. It also runs a variety of contests. Kaneva was launched by Christopher Klaus, who previously founded Internet Security Systems Incorporated (SSI). That firm was sold to IBM in 2000 for over $1 billion.
