Users of Research In Motion's BlackBerry mobile device are likely tiring of hearing about how much the Apple iPhone can do. However, there are a number of clever keyboard shortcuts some users do not know about that boost the device's functionality. Screen navigation can be sped up with a series of keystrokes, and it is possible to toggle between running applications without having to return to the Home screen. For messaging, there are hot keys that allow users to immediately start composing an e-mail, reply to a message and forward, and another that navigates directly to the oldest message in a string. There are AutoText codes that can automatically display information or phrases; typing LD and LT, respectively, will display the local date and time. Another series of keystrokes allows users to check the exact percentage of battery power remaining, since the battery indicator display is imprecise and can be difficult to interpret. Accessing the BlackBerry's Event Log allows users to view performed functions, clear the log to free up memory, and set the Log to record only certain functions.
