Title: 'Millennial Generation' Set to Rock the Vote

The success of Barack Obama, a contender for the Democratic nomination for President, indicates the increasing influence of the millennial generation on politics. Born between 1982 and 2003, the Millenials are the largest and most diverse generation in American history. Accusations stemming from Obama's comments about 'bitter' small town voters appear not to have stuck. The fact that the candidate has emerged relatively unscathed indicates the political game has changed. The political outlook of the Millenials has been shaped, in many cases, by coming of age during the two terms of George W. Bush. As a generation, they generally are less divided than Baby Boomers and less conservative than Gen Xers. Millenials want to 'find win-win solutions to America's problems.' They are turned off by personal attacks, which may mean that all the discussion of Obama's missteps is off-putting for them. Raised with the Internet, the Millenials also question the authority of the old media. All of this may mean that efforts by Obama's rivals to paint him as unpatriotic or elitist will be counter-productive with young voters, whose influence in politics is only likely to grow.
