SugarSync is a new, easy-to-use data synchronization service from Sharpcast that stores the most current versions of users' files on its own servers, updates any changes automatically and replicates them to users' other devices. The service is targeted to those who use multiple devices to access files, who up to now have been underserved by similar offerings from the likes of Microsoft Window's Live FolderShare and BeInSync, which only work on Windows. It enables a user to access a file and make changes to it that will be automatically accessible to the user's desktop, laptop and smartphone. Currently, SugarSync supports Windows and Apple's MacOS, and works with Windows Mobile handsets and RIM's BlackBerrys; support for other smartphones is in development. To use the service, a user downloads SugarSync Manager to each device to be linked, and identifies the folders to be synchronized. The lite sync option, best for most users, avoids overloading the network by downloading the most current version of a file only when the user needs it. With any sync option, SugarSync creates a 'Magic Briefcase' folder on the user's computer for critical data that is kept updated at all times. SugarSync is available in a range of annual license fees, and starts at a minimum of 10 gigabytes of server space.
