Despite the fact that a number of vendors are tripping all over themselves in order to offer the most complete unified communications and collaboration package, the business market does not seem to be responding quite as enthusiastically to the products available. For more than 18 months, unified communications and collaboration vendors have been collecting all the necessary pieces in order to offer a complete product package for when the day finally comes that video and voice-over capabilities will be made available for business applications. Microsoft has revealed three deals to move forward when it comes to this area, including collaborations with Tandberg, Polycom and Aspect. Siemens has introduced their Open-Scape platform; Avaya has slashed prices for their related products in a bid to win customers. Not one to be left out, Cisco Systems has been able to offer one of the most complete and total unified communication and collaborative packages available on the market today. Nonetheless, the question still stands: Are companies ready for these products? If recent statistical analysis has anything to say about the topic, they are not. Very few companies utilize the currently available products, despite their overall appeal, and few intend to invest in these products in the very near future. This means that while the idea of unified communications and collaboration products is appealing and very exciting to vendors, the enthusiasm is not yet all there when it comes to the potential consumers.
