Title: IBM Just Doesn't Get It

People want access to social networking sites and the many capabilities that come with them. The potential for these sites is still unfolding and, in part, it is the exciting promise of what could be that appeals to many users. While IBM got involved early when it came to social networking, this does not mean that they have managed to stay on top of the market throughout the technology's success. In particular, they seem to be losing some of their edge now because of the ways in which they are approaching the potential future of social networking. It is great that the company is involved in investing in the technologies and furthering their capabilities, especially when it comes to the business front. Many people are intrigued, waiting to see how social networking will be affected by the business realm and the business needs that are so prevalent in the world today. IBM deserves kudos for this. However, they are going just a step too far when it comes to what they require when it comes to consumers accessing these technologies. Namely, they want to charge their customers for their social networking services. There is a possibility that IBM's plan might work once the future of social networking is more clearly defined, but for now the company seems to be just a tad too demanding.
