Social network safety could boost the potential of social networks in the education of young students. Over the past few years, the reputation of social networks such as MySpace and Facebook has been muddled by incidents of predation, slander and harassment. This raised concerns among parents and educators regarding the role of social networks in the children's education. However, once safety issues are eliminated, social networks can bring education to futuristic learning environments, where students from different nations can interact to think deeply. Carefully made guidelines covering issues such as control and administration as well as online safety can ensure the success of bridging the gaps in the education system. Control and administration are key to ensuring social network safety. While MySpace and Facebook may not be safe platforms because of the lack of administrative control, educators can alternatively use services such as Ning to facilitate collaborative initiatives. Ning is a sophisticated collaboration tool that can let educators build their own social network. It includes features needed to ensure the safety of students within the network. Other services that can provide similar capabilities include Snappville and Agilix's BrainHoney.
