TecTrends: T-Mobile Service Ties Cellphones to Home, with Some Sacrifices

Talk Forever Home Phone from T-Mobile will allow customers to use their cell phone account to talk on any corded or cordless home phone, though the service is far from perfect. The service is being tested in Dallas and Seattle and costs a modest monthly fee for unlimited domestic calls. Customers must make a one-time purchase of a special Wi-Fi router that marries an in-home Wi-Fi network to the T-Mobile cell phone network, however. The router can replace your existing Wi-Fi router for Internet connectivity but will not interfere with your Internet should you choose not to switch from your current router. The service should be available nationally within months. The system is simple to set up and provided the tester with the same quality calls as a traditional landline. There are problems that may deter some customers from switching, including the fact that the service does not work with fax machines and will not automatically transmit the user's address to emergency services if they dial 911. Also, your home phone number cannot be the same as your cell phone number. You must also be a T-Mobile cell phone customer in order to sign up. T-Mobile claims the service will work even for those who do not have T-Mobile cell phone coverage at their house.

The TecTrends live search works as you type shows results in a drop-down box below the search box. The result list includes the name of the company, TecTerm or product along with some information about it and its popularity. Clicking on a record you are interested will display it (if it is a TecTerm it will display records with that TecTerm).

The live search will display the most relevant records and will limit the results by type if any of the Companies, TecTerms, or Products checkboxes are checked. In order to perform a full search based on what you have typed into the search box you may hit the 'Go' button.

Helpful information on the status of your search is displayed on the line above the search box so you can tell when a search is in progress or if no matches were found. You can also use the Options menu to change the result type filters (checkboxes), browse all records alphabetically using the directory, and search for articles.

To close and open the live search result list click on the down arrow at the right of the search box.

To increase or decrease the size of the live search result list you can click on the [+] or [-] button at the bottom of the live search results.
By default the results are sorted by popularity. To sort by record name click on the 'Name' column header and to sort by popularity click on the 'weight' column header.
