The Game Developers Conference in San Francisco is an opportunity for developers to showcase their games. Highlights from this years conference include the Nintendo Balance Board, the interface for Wii Fit, a new fitness game. The Balance Board, which senses movement in four directions, will be available in the United States on May 19, 2008. 1.4 million have already been sold in Japan. The Epoc mind-control headset from Emotiv allows user to manipulate items on screen with their thoughts, as well as sense a players mood. Though there were a few mishaps during Emotivs presentation, the headset also made a big splash at the conference, and will go on sale this holiday season. Nokias new mobile gaming platform, N-Gage, will be released in the next several weeks, and was showcased in San Francisco. N-Gage allows developers to create games that will play on a number of headsets without having to be ported to each. Nokia also touted the First Access online service on N-Gage enabled phones, which allows gamers to buy, rate and review games. Worldgaming, meanwhile, is developing an online community where gamers can bet money on console games, the results of which will be automatically scored online to avoid misreporting of results. The site will also have a social-networking component to help gamers connect with each other and police the site. A variety of other games were also exhibited at the conference.
