Javien Inc. released its New Media Payment Gateway in January, a product that attempts to make it easier for its customers to directly process payments for their content without needing to use third-party gateways. Javien provides content commerce technologies and is well known in the industry for its Digital Payment Solutions (DPS), which helps new media companies manage and deploy subscriptions, downloads, pay-per-view, alternative billing, and micropayments. According to CEO Leslie Poole, Javian was spurred on by customer feedback to develop its own payment gateway. The New Media Payment Gateway, which customers can sign up for via Javien DPS, can process transactions made through standard credit cards as well as electronic check payments and debit cards. It can handle multiple international currencies, thus eliminating exchange fees. In addition, the new product can track the loyalty of customers as well as royalties; support nontraditional kinds of payment such as through PayPal, billing to cell phones, and ClickandBuy; and can process micropayments, transactions valued at less than five dollars. Javien is particularly proud of its status as an early provider of micropayment processing technology with the ability to bundle and handle complex micropayment models, and these small transactions are expected to become a substantial transaction category. Poole believes that a convergence between physical and digital goods is right around the corner, and expects Javien to have an impact on that emerging market.
