Title: Wearing Down the Incumbents

Google has made no secret of its attempts to aggressively seek out a niche for itself in the open mobile network area. It is even expected that their plan would be self-serving, though probably not entirely successful. Google will be facing off against incumbents who are powerful in the field. Foes include, but are not limited to, Verizon Wireless and AT&T. Google's main problem will likely be its struggle to continue to control the growth of its product and company. It will be very challenging for Google to get its products and services in front of the consumer to the point that consumers would feel compelled to utilize the services that Google has to offer. Since its services surrounding mobility are not linked to powerhouses such as AT&T or Verizon Wireless, Google simply seems to be trying to threaten other companies that already have some power over mobility services. While many individuals are aware of who and what Google is, Google is not linked, in the mind of the consumer, to mobility services. If Google is able to succeed in its plan, Google would likely be able to gain access only to a piece of the mainstream cellular market. To the same end, powerhouses such as Verizon and AT&T would likely still maintain control over the high-end piece of the market.
