IBM has launched Jazz.net to give software developers access to its Jazz collaboration platform. In addition, the company has unveiled beta 2 of IBM Rational Team Concert Express, a Jazz-based development server for commercial release. The company is allowing anyone to access all Jazz technologies, source code, bug reports and requirements in a bid to allow customers to join in building products they will eventually be using. Free licenses are also available to universities and educational institution that want to teach Jazz as well as to qualified open source initiatives that wish to use it. Rational Team Concert Express, which will be completely launched in mid-2008, is a new suite of development servers designed to help small- and mid-sized development groups boost their productivity through real-time collaboration with a worldwide scale. The product comprises web dashboards that offer real-time data such as item work status and project health. Team Concert also enables customers to easily consolidate the products that they develop into their application life-cycle system. In addition to Team Concert Jazz, IBM also launched Project Bluegrass, which integrates IBM Jazz technology with virtual spheres. The project is aimed at helping baby boomers relay their knowledge to the younger workforce. Jazz facilitates the collaboration, while the virtual world allows users to visualize that collaboration.
