As more end users in the upper echelons of the business world demand mobilization of corporate applications, it is up to the mobile developers to build systems that make sense and keep company data secure. Advice from the leading providers of database platforms stresses that perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind is to cut down the project to its bare minimum. It is important to only have what is absolutely necessary, and that the end product will do what it is supposed to do as efficiently as possible. Another key aspect of mobilizing data is to be thinking about synchronization right from the beginning. Therefore, knowing when and how often users will be online versus offline is extremely valuable. Data organization is also something to keep in mind, as is minimizing the amount of traffic and data that gets sent over a network. And, of course, there are the security vulnerabilities to keep in mind. The transmission of data needs to happen in a secure fashion and the proper authorization and authentication policies need to be in place. Perhaps someday there will be ubiquitous connectivity, but for now, mobile developers have a lot to think about as they try and create useful and secure systems.
