Delphis latest XpressRC satellite radio receiver is still built around a long-lived chip set with just a few minor tweaks to the platform. It is designed primarily as a docked device and has no internal battery, with power coming from ones car or boom box at home. The user interface is displayed on a 2.8-inch widescreen LCD with an estimated resolution of 400 x 240 (WQVGA). The XpressRC allows recording and replay of up to an hours worth of programming and has an adequate storage for nonrealtime listening of recorded content. The external pickup is built around a fairly typical ceramic block antenna, and the output first ends up at an STMicroelectronics #STA801 Front End Tuner. Next is the #STA855 Channel Source Decoder that interfaces to a ProMOS #V54C3128804VB 16-Mbyte ADRAM for working memory. Two components from austriamicrosystems, the #AS3655 (power management unit) and #AS3524 (media processor with audio front-end and PMU), combine with the ST chip set to form the core of the media player aspects of the XpressRC. The #AS3524 joins with local processor memory in the form of a Micro #MT48H32M16LFCJ-75 IT 64-Mbyte Mobile SDRAM and a Samsung #K9F1G08U0B 128-Mbyte NAND flash for content storage. The #AS3524 handles LCD control along with digital audio processing and the chips digital audio supplies the #AS3655s DAC for final output. The final audio signal is also fed to a Silicon Labs #Si4720 FM transceiver. With XM monthly fees based on the duration of the contract, annual service revenue is almost certainly where the money is.
