With approximately 400 products on the market, digital asset management (DAM) is a rapidly growing area of software. DAM software is in demand, though organizations can struggle to choose a product from the many offered. The growing demand for DAM software is in part driven by the increasing use of video to communicate in the business world, and the market for such software is expected to grow from 70 million USD today, to over 300 million USD by 2013. Educational institutions, among them the Utah Education Network (UEN), are also employing DAM systems. UEN selected Telescope from North Plains, for a variety of reasons including its user-friendly interface, and because it was a mature product. Teachers are able to search a library for videos to compliment their teaching, and then download it. Longer videos can be broken down in to segments and metadata can be added. In the future, Telescope may be integrated with Blackboard. Sollan has built a video content management (VCM) system atop Alfresco, an open source enterprise content management system. The product is ready to use, and allows business to import, store, and index any type of video. VCM can also be integrated with other applications, and has no limits on file size. Oracle offers Universal Content Management (UCM), allows companies to use the same video clip a variety of ways. UCM also integrates many supporting products. Metadata is associated with each video, which can be used to determine how should be distributed, and full texts of each video are also stored.
