Media oriented systems transport (Most) is an all-digital networking solution used in automobile infotainment systems since 2001. It offers high bandwidth and robustness and is easy to use. The latest generation offers advancements and is more cost-effective. The new intelligent network interface controller (INIC) architecture 'encapsulates network behavior so that it doesn't have to be ported to each different platform,' thus eliminating behavioral differences. The INIC is a complete Most node and does not need to interact with an application to operate; therefore the node attaches to the network quickly and protects the node should the application stop responding. Application issues are encapsulated locally and cannot affect the remainder of the system. The latest generation of Most runs at 150 Mb/s though network controllers for the older Most50 also use INIC architecture, which 'provides maximum backward compatibility.' The Most150 is six times faster than Most25, though both Most25 and Most150 transport audio and visual signals with about 98 percent efficiency. This enables the transport of multiple HD video streams, surround sound and the Internet simultaneously, for example. Other technologies have higher data rates though their effective rate is less than 50 percent. The high speeds of Most150 can be achieved without much change to existing network infrastructure. Both Most25 and Most150 have a control channel, a packet channel and a synchronous domain, though these come with significant enhancements for the Most150. The Most150 also offers Ethernet and isochronous channels, and three new isochronous mechanisms: burst streaming, constant rate streaming, and packet streaming.
