When considering updates to the search engine Velocity, developers at Vivisimo decided to study the employees who were using the search engine on their intranets daily. At home, workers were used to utilizing Google searches, del.icio.us tagging, and Web 2.0 interactivity. These were the experiences that they developed in their home computing and the workers were not happy about giving up the simplicity and speed they experienced at home when they went to work. Velocity was developed on the philosophy that the engine would cluster search results based on keyword comprehension. Recent versions of Velocity allowed platform compatibility across a variety of different operating systems and it also brought these search capabilities to the mobile devices of users. Velocity 6.0 gives users even more improved control over how their search results are clustered and sorted. The application also adds a collaborative functionality. In order to catch up with sites like Amazon and del.icio.us, Velocity 6.0 added trendy extras such as tagging, rating, ranking and commenting functions. This allows more of an interactive experience within the Velocity portal. Customers told the company that they wanted their Velocity search product to be more of a portal compared to the search engines on the Internet. Now the updated Velocity is able to search and store information across multiple content management systems. This includes e-mail and individual desktops as well as archive depositories.
