As video creating, viewing and sharing becomes more and more commonplace on the Web, users are asking for YouTube and TiVo-like capabilities at work. IT departments and business leaders need to respond to this user demand and make the appropriate proactive and strategic investments to incorporate video into the workplace. Doing so could translate into greater worker efficiency and could waylay competition. There are a number of ways video can be used in the enterprise, and each requires a different approach. The most common uses include studio webcasting, training room capture, conference room streaming and user-generated content. Each instance requires tailored applications and underlying platform so that coverage holes do not emerge and audiences do not go unsupported. Requirements for live and on-demand video in the enterprise are significantly more robust than for consumer video websites. They need to be highly scalable and secure and will oftentimes include desktop content bundled with documents, PDFs, etc. Video must be distributed over private corporate networks rather than over the public internet and connect to a companys existing infrastructure. Live video events must be viewable by large audiences simultaneously and often require interactivity such as polling or Q&A. Video content is very sensitive and highly attributable. As such, the ability to detect and capture video assets, track and report viewership, and archive and delete expired video is critical.
