Hopefully available by early next year as estimated at the time of printing, SAP has revealed its newest software, called Business ByDesign. This software service is set to take care of many business functions, such as order management, but it also extends beyond that. Users will also be able to take advantage of the customer relation features and analytics. However, the number of companies able to take advantage of the software is limited. SAP says that Business ByDesign is only appropriate for companies that have 100 to 500 employees. Other software-as-a-service companies are competing by signing on large companies boasting over 25,000 employees. While SAP is not competing with the numbers of rival companies such as Salesforce.com and Procuri, all of the companies that sign on with these vendors are after one thing: They are trying to look for simpler Internet technology services, and are hoping that software-as-a-service will help lead to that end goal. As it turns out, SAP may have tapped into a great resource by specializing in smaller companies. They estimate that a potential market of small businesses would comprise a great deal of money. While it might work to their advantage to focus on smaller businesses that are likely not being pursued by the other software-as-a-service companies, some individuals remain skeptical of their attempt to only solicit from smaller-size companies.
