In China, there are many educated and successful individuals that are walking around, pirating music off of the internet-and they see absolutely nothing wrong with their behavior. Thanks to the Chinese internet search engine, Baidu.com, individuals can easily locate music and other web files. The MP3 option of the Baidu.com search page allows web surfers the opportunity to simply locate the intended files without actually visiting the page on which the files are embedded or located. Despite the fact that many music companies take issue with this service being offered, there is not much that can be done about it. China makes suing very difficult. While the cost of suing someone who is alleged to be a music pirate can cost more than $13,000, the damages that are paid by such an individual in losing such a case often do not exceed more than $130. While many companies, such as IDGVC Partners, work towards promoting the payment of shows and music cast over the internet in China, many of the people there still say that the blame does not fall on the individuals who take advantage of Baidu.com. Instead, they maintain that the irresponsibility falls on the makers of the webpage, since without this easy type of access, it is argued that many of the so-called music pirates would not be able to download the clips to which they are so used to having access.
